Kaylee had just finished recalibrating the compression coil that had been replaced on Serenity's last planetside stop for repairs. She found herself hungry and made her way to the dining area. It was quiet throughout the ship, which usually meant two things: 1) Trouble was just around the corner or 2) People were just taking a much needed relaxation period.
She dug around the cuboards and such and found what she was looking for, a nice bowl full of strawberries. She sat down and started to nibble on them. She was due for a much needed relaxation and hoped that the next docking point would be somewhere nice, somewhere where she and Simon could spend some time together, alone.

River wandered around the ship. She was forever wandering, as there wasn't really anything to do on days like today. Today was a boredom day, and River knew it. So did the rest of the crew. There were no Reavers, there were no Alliance ships on thier tail. There was nothing, not even the tiniest speck of dust, to mess up the day. And so, not for the first time, River was bored. It was hard, really, being bored, for a girl like River. A girl who could see into everyone's mind at once. It was hard to know everything before it was said, or before it happened.
And so it was hard not to be bored.
River was passing by the dining room on her way to the cockpit. She noticed someone was in the dining room, and her mind instantly told her that it was Kaylee. Was Kaylee as bored as she was? Not that she wanted to pry into Kaylee's mind, River nevertheless knew, almost instantly, that Kaylee was not so much bored as wanting to relax. With Simon. River frowned, but decided to stop and talk, or whatever, with Kaylee.
Quietly, as the girl wore no shoes, River walked toward the older woman. Kaylee was eating something, and the sweet, fruity scent in the air told her it was strawberries. River's mouth watered, she hadn't had strawberries in a while. She smiled at Kaylee once the woman could see her. "How are you?" She asked, sitting in a chair across from Kaylee. And then, "May I?"

Kaylee, whom was to distracted with the sweet taste of the strawberries, did not even hear River enter the room. When River sat in the chair across from Kaylee, she looked out the corner of her eye and saw who it was and turned around.
"Oh hey River, I didn't hear or see you come in. You are so quiet," she replied, "Oh sure, have a seat. You know I never say no to your company."
She pushed the bowl of strawberries towards River, offering her some. "These are so sweet."
