Vampires...
The immortal manifestations of mortal fear, beings who endlessly walk the Earth while stalking their prey from the sanctity of shadows... Never seen... Never heard...
Cresthaven had been a peaceful city for centuries, its populace enjoying modest, ethical existences within its crime and pollution-free borders, while its powerful economy grew stronger and stronger. It was shining example of modern capitalist civilization throughout the world, a haven of freedom and liberty that attracted people from all cultures and creeds to bask in the tolerant lifestyle that it offered. To the common eye, the city seemed wholesome, moral, and above all else unassuming, though there was a select few who could see passed the illusion that had been cast over mortal eyes, an illusion that had been fabricated to keep them content and docile, created to sheppard them like the cattle that they were. From the secrecy of the shadow, the vampire clans had taken root in the city from the highest levels of government to the leaders of its corporate juggernaut, influencing every decision that would impact the city in any way. They were the kings of this realm since its creation, though the populace remained unaware of their existence.
For half of a millennium, Vampires and Humans lived this way without turbulence, and any issue was immediately resolved before it caused any disruption. Between the clans, a sacred bond had been created to secure this way of life, a covenant sealed with the blood of the ancients that forbade their kind from actively interacting with mortals, ensuring that their kin would live on in control, in wealth and decadence for centuries to come. This bond was called the Crimson Covenant, and it was the code in which every minion of the night lived by, or death was their only reality. The clans of the Vampires, known as the 4 Covenants, each played their respected rolls within the city functions, each operating autonomously yet serving a common ultimate goal. It was not until the appearance of what seemed to be a 5th clan, an infidel covenant that disregarded the Crimson Covenant, that this way of existence had been threatened.
This clan is viewed as corrupted, self-indulgent, undeserving of the immortal blood that coursed through their veins, but the allure of their restriction-free ways feasted upon the guilty pleasures of the vampire populace. The 5th Covenant interacted with mortals freely, involving themselves in the daily events of mankind, revealing themselves and the secrets that their kin had upheld for years before them. They were a liability, and those who served the Crimson Covenant could not allow their existence to continue. Now, once the sun falls and gives birth to the night, the city is transformed into a battlefield where brothers and sisters fight amongst themselves in a bid to create a world in the image that they have chosen. Until one side succeeds over the other, the fate of the Crimson Covenant remains undecided.
