Kaylee had been in the cargo bay for quite sometime now helping store the goods from the last salvage mission in the hidden compartment just below the stairs. She wasn't doing a very good job, because she was looking at some old parts from the ship that the salvage was apart of that Mal was so kind to bring back for Kaylee seeing as she took any part and used it for Serenity.
Jayne was to help her store the goods, which didn't bother her any because Kaylee always tried to get along with everyone as long as they were not rude or make rude comments about Serenity. But Jayne could tend to get on her nerves a bit, so she just hoped he was pleasant this time around.

Jayne wasn't really in too good of a mood, but yet, at the same time, he was really in as good a mood as anyone had seen him recently. He was dying to get to some sort of civilization and have the rewards that were earned to him. A man could only go so long before a desired the touch of a woman, the scent of a clean bed, and the soothing feeling of a real bath. Space was nice and all, but it could only afford you so many luxuries, after all. And besides, it was driving him mad up here, what with Kaylee and Simon ruttin' about all over the ship, and no one watching River, and Mal going off the deep end trying to avoid another war and all... The only other person on the ship decent these days to talk to was either Inara, who really didn't like what Jayne had to say, or Zoe, who didn't say much at all these days. It was enough to say that Jayne was going a little stir crazy.
"Darn it all," Jayne mumbled to himself as he pulled a crate from the cargo bay doors. The parts were fetching a pretty decent price, but it wasn't no giant payload that would send them off to Persephone. It was enough to fuel the ship and keep going, which wasn't what any of them wanted.
"Kaylee," Jayne almost roared, but he kept his tone in check, keeping it just below steaming so that she knew he was stirred up about something. "Are you gonna look at them parts all day or are you gonna help me stash them up?"

Kaylee had been messing with a part that was in the cargo that she thought would make a perfect substitute if the compression coil ever blew and they needed to replace it. It wasn't until Jayne entered the cargo bay and started to pull the crates into their safe, hidden location.
When Jayne spoke to her, she looked up at him with her usual look she always gave him and nodded. "Yea, I am going to help you. I was just thinking it is too bad that we have to get rid of some of these parts...a lot of them could come in handy here on Serenity if I ever needed them in the engine room," she replied smugly towards Jayne. She hated how he was always bossy and mean to others...he was hardly ever in a nice or pleasant mood.
