Welcome To Truro Cathedral College
We are happy to see you are considering sending your child to our college, below you will find some key information about the college itself, it’s quaint setting and the courses we’re offering your child. Please read this letter carefully and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Truro Cathedral College is a college set in Truro, a small Cathedral city in Cornwall making it the most Southerly city in Great Britain. A former Stannary town, Truro was founded in the 12th Century and in 1876 it was decided that Truro deserved it’s own Cathedral. Today Truro is a bustling and picturesque place with Georgian streets, 18th and 19th century town houses and the magnificent Victorian Cathedral that dominates the city.
The College offers an excellent academic education and wonderful opportunities. It is hoped that by the time the students leave Truro Cathedral College they will be a well rounded individual with a good outlook on the world and a person who can confidently take on the next phase in their lives. The College has a total of 300 pupils ranging between first years [16 years] to fourth years [20 years] who are taught by well experienced staff who aim to give the students not only a fantastic academic curriculum but also a place where they feel safe and valued.
The college is well known for turning pupils around. It hopes that students with all sorts of issues at home and problem’s in their personal lives will feel welcome at the school and not as if they are being looked down upon. In the past the school has taken on everything from students with drug addictions to pregnant teenagers to anger management problems. It is not just about solving the problem to make the student a good member of society but giving the students the emotional support they need which they might not be getting at home. The school is not about running away and hiding from your problems but facing them and solving them and overall becoming a better person.
The curriculum offered is hoped to be varied and interesting. As well as the three core subjects [Maths, English and Science] other subjects are taught by trained teachers. Counselling sessions in some cases are a must as well as team-building and confidence building classes. The students are pushed to do their best and flourish in the subjects they are best at. It is hoped that all of the student’s interests are incorporated within the curriculum or in extra-curricular activities. All students are encouraged to participate in group activities and to make friends and improve social skills. Every student is different and each one is approached as a individual. The student’s success within the school not only relies on staff but also the student’s mind set.
The Truro College boarding facilities have been with the school since the start. With two different blocks, boys and girls are kept separate with staff patrolling the corridors regularly. It has recently been made so that boarding is not a choice and all students must board so that staff have more control over what is going on in the student’s lives which is hoped to speed up the process of reaching the ultimate aim. This does not mean however that students are running away from any problems they may have at home. It is hoped that the students can lead a normal life and the staff will allow this but like any parents, rules will be set.
The ultimate aim of the College is to provide an excellent academic education so the students can be stretched to their highest potential and to develop student’s personalities so they leave the school as a caring and self-disciplined young adults. The school hopes to promote moral values and reach the student’s needs. It is hoped that student’s will have improved as members of society and with gentle guidance they would have succeeded in solving any previously existing problems within their lives to the best of their ability.
We hope that you will consider Truro Cathedral College as the next step in your child’s life. We will never turn away a student no matter how hard we have to work with the individual to achieve success. The application form is attached to the letter and we hope to be seeing your child very soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Professor Richard Carlton M.D B.A Ph.D
