It's just a giant telescope, but it's the best in the 'Verse. Without the lights of the cities, it can see to the edge of the solar system and beyond, and is generally looking for new places to maybe send a team of colonizers.

The Kwan Yin stores a lot of supplies, but more or less it stores possessions... the things of those who died and couldn't leave them behind to anyone. Inside are crates and crates of more or less valuable items. No chance getting in unless you've got permission from the Alliance.

A massive communications station, the Kameyo looks like what it means, a giant tortoise. It, however, holds backup records of the entire Cortex, unless it's information that doesn't mean to be found.

Like a giant warehouse in the sky, the Federal Supply Annex is where most finished products for the Alliance are sent to be stored for later shipment. If you've got Alliance goods, they more than likely wound up here at some point.

Upstanding young citizens looking to become officers in the Alliance military attend this school, as do those looking for the best degrees in sciences, mathematics, and government. The best and the brightest are usually the only ones accepted.
